Thomas enters Montgomery County Sheriff’s race

Neal Thomas has announced that he is running for Montgomery County Sheriff. He made the announcement Tuesday, February 15, at the Montgomery County Republican Committee Meeting in Mount Ida.
He posted this statement on Facebook after making his announcement. “After much consideration, and an extensive amount of prayer on the subject, I attended the Republican Party of Montgomery County meeting tonight and officially announced my candidacy for the Office of Sheriff of Montgomery County. I do not enter into this endeavor lightly. This is our home and I consider it an honor and a privilege to serve you, the people of Montgomery County. I look forward to meeting and talking with as many of you as possible in the coming days and weeks, and hearing your concerns, opinions and expectations of your Sheriff. I would consider it an honor to earn your respect and support.”
Thomas brings 34 years of law enforcement experience to the race, including 26 years with the Arkansas State Police. His career began at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
He is currently serving as the Arkansas State Police, Criminal Investigation Division, Company “A” Commander in Little Rock, at the rank of Lieutenant
He has been awarded the Trooper’s Cross and an Official Commendation.
Certifications include:School of Law Enforcement Supervision at the University of Arkansas Systems, Criminal Justice Institute,Crime Scene Tech Certified – Criminal Justice Institute,Advanced Crime Scene Tech Certified – Criminal Justice Institute.
He completed the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy in 1990 and the Arkansas State Police Troop School in 1996.
He is certified as a Professional Law Enforcement Instructor, Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor, Field Training Officer, and Arkansas Fire Training Academy Arson Investigation Instructor
He is a trained and experienced Motor Vehicle Crash Reconstructionist, Crime Scene Reconstructionist, Arson Investigator, Homicide Investigator and FARO 3D Crime Scene Scanner Operator and Instructor
Thomas is a Retired First Sergeant, a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of the Arkansas Army National Guard.
He served two Combat Tours of Duty in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (2004-2005, 2008)
He has received two Bronze Stars. One with Combat Distinguishing “V” Device for valor during combat operations and one Purple Heart.
