Lady Trojans, Blue Jays earn 1A Region 4 Tournament Crowns

The Kirby Lady Trojans and the Nevada Blue Jays will represent the 1A Region 4 as One Seeds in the 1A State Tournament after earning victories over the Caddo Hills Lady Indians and Bradley Bears.

The Lady Trojans had their hands full with Caddo Hills in the opening moments of the Women’s Final with the Lady Indians easing out to a 13-12 lead in the first period. Kirby seized control of the game in the second period with a 19-9 run to take a 31-22 lead into the half. Kirby outpaced Caddo Hills 24-13 in the second half to claim the 55-35 victory. Mckenzie Jones led the Lady Trojans with 16 points. Taylor Allen led Caddo Hills with eight.

Kirby will tip off the 1A State Tournament Monday, March 3, at 1 p.m. against Western Yell County.

Caddo Hills will face County Line Thursday, March 5, at 1 p.m. for their first round match up.

The Nevada Blue Jays jumped out to an 8-0 lead in their match up with Bradley and never looked back, earning a 56-43 victory over the Bradley Bears.

Nevada opened the game with a 16-6 lead in the first period and held a 28-16 lead at the half. They outscored Bradley 28-27 in the second half to preserve the win and a One Seed in the 1A State Tournament. Nevada’s post-game celebration was put on hold for a few minutes as law enforcement dealt with a near scuffle in the stands. Jonathan Easter of Bradley entered the stands, but was brought back to the floor before getting involved in the incident in the stands. Keyonte Coleman led the Blue Jays with 14 points. Allen Taylor led Bradley with 21 points.

Nevada will face County Line Tuesday, March 3, at 2:30 p.m. in the 1st Round of the 1A State Tournament.

Bradley will face Kingston Thursday, March 5, at 2:30 p.m. in the 1st Round of the 1A State Tournament. All preliminary state tournament games will be played at the Lake Hamilton High School Gymnasium located in Pearcy. Kirby will be hosting the tournament at the location. Finals will be held at the Hot Springs Convention Center.
