People in desperate need are often invisible. While rarely seen, there are folks in Montgomery County who are sleeping in vehicles, tents, housing with no heat or water, or couch surfing. These are individuals and even families whose limited resources make their lives miserable. Misery is at its worst in the winter.
The Montgomery County Homeless Coalition really wants to help. In that interest the Coalition is announcing their 2021 “Day of Services.”
Members of the Coalition include United Way of the Ouachita, Montgomery County Food Pantry, Montgomery County Health Education Advisory Board, and Montgomery County Extension Service with the support of private individuals.
The “Day of Services” goal is to identify and record the population in the county that is homeless or has inadequate housing and provide some helpful resources. The information collected at the event helps the Coalition qualify for grants to help the homeless in more permanent ways.
On Thursday, January 28, those who qualify are invited to the Montgomery County Annex, home of the Food Pantry and the County Extension Service, between the hours of 12 noon – 2pm. Resources available for distribution can include blankets, coats, socks, food kits, toiletries, etc.
If you know anyone in this situation, please encourage them to take advantage of this event.
