Community mourns the loss of former extension agent, JP

Longtime extension agent and Justice of the Peace Dan McCarter passed way Monday, March 16, leaving behind a legacy of service to the people of Montgomery County.

MacCarter was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma March 8, 1935. Most of his life was spent in service to the people of Montgomery County. He served for over 30 years as an extension agent for Montgomery County, a position he retired from in 1992.

McCarter served as a Justice of the Peace for over 25 years. 

Active in the community, he was a former president and member of the Farm Bureau Board, Sampley Foundation Scholarship Board, Garland County Farmers Association Board of Directors and the Mount Gilead Cemetery Board. He also served as a Deacon at Norman First Baptist Church for over 50 years.

A private family gathering, including their pastor, Bro. Robbie Loudermilk, will be held in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, burial will be held in Mount Gilead Cemetery.

A public Celebration of Life for Mr. McCarter will be held at a later date and will be announced by Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
