Tammy Waggoner

NORMAN – The race for Mayor has begun with Tammy Waggoner announcing her interest to run for the position in November.

Waggoner, who works as the business manager at Ligon Oil Company in Norman, is no stranger to Norman city government. She served as the city’s bookkeeper for several years and served at least two terms as a council member, serving under two mayor’s.

Waggoner looks to succeed former mayor, Roseanna Markham who died earlier this year in a car accident which also killed her sister and seriously injured a minor.

Waggoner stated on Facebook that it was Roseanna who got her involved in Norman’s city government several years ago as a bookkeeper and council member. Her decision to run for Mayor is due in part to a desire to continue the late mayor’s legacy of hard work and commitment to the city of Norman.

Waggoner is currently collecting signatures. Once she has collected enough signatures she will be added to the ballot in the General Election to be held in November.

Alderman Homer Ethridge currently serves as Interim Mayor. He was selected to fill the position shortly after the passing of Roseanna Markham.
