Norman Waterworks issues boil order

Norman Waterworks has issued a precautionary boil order notice in effect as of Sunday, June 28 until further notice.

According to a press release submitted to the Montgomery County News The Arkansas Department of Health has confirmed a “boil order” notice has been issued by Kenn Greene for the entire Norman Waterworks System. The reason listed for the boil order is the possibility that contaminated water may have entered the distribution system as a result of the partial loss in normal system pressure.

The entire Norman Waterworks System was without water for several hours Sunday, June 28, while the Glenwood Waterworks Department worked on a broken line just south of Caddo Gap.

Under the boil order all affected customers must be advised that the water may be unsafe for human consumption and water used for drinking or food preparation must be boiled briskly for one minute prior to use. All ice cubes should be discarded and only boiled water used to make ice.

The precautionary boil order will be in effect until an adequate disinfectant level is established throughout the system and a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink.
