Mount Ida claims three of four district track titles

Coach Roy Ray and Coach TJ Wilson have set the bar high in their first year at the helms of the Mount Ida track programs with 7-1A District Titles in three of four divisions.

Both girls teams brought home district titles along with the senior boys. The junior Lions barely missed a sweep, finishing in second place in the jr boys meet.

Both district meets were held at Mineral Springs Wednesday, April 28 with the jr teams competing first and then the senior high.

Coaches Ray and Wilson brought a philosophy of strength in numbers with a host of competitors competing in the Mount Ida Maroon.

The Junior Lady Lions claimed the first district crown of the day with a point total of 269.5, almost 100 points better than the runner up Mineral Springs Junior Lady Hornets who had 173.5. Blevins finished in third with 109 points and Ouachita scored 23.

Mineral Springs won the jr boys division with 278 points. Mount Ida was close behind with 701 points, followed by Blevins with 85.5 and Ouachita with 37.5.

The Lions and Lady Lions dominated the sr high meet with the Lady Lions scoring 233 points, 101 points better than second place Blevins who scored 132. Mineral Springs finished in third with 129 and Ouachita finished fourth with 44.

The senior boys division was the tightest race to the 7-1A District Title, but Mount Ida outlasted Mineral Springs with the Lions scoring 264 points to the Hornets 230. Blevins finished third with 77 and Ouachita finished fourth with 45.

The 1A State Track Meet will be held Monday, May 3, at Mineral Springs.
