MOUNT IDA – The Junior Lions played hard from start to finish in their season opener, but failed to get the win with Perryville walking away with a 30-0 victory.
The Junior Mustangs wasted no time, completing a pass 50 yard pass on the opening play for a touchdown. The two point conversion was good and they held an eight point lead with only 17 seconds gone on the clock.
The Junior Lions’ offense stepped onto the field and moved the ball into Perryville territory on a tandem of runs by Peyton Dorrell and Ben Woodfield. An illegal motion penalty pushed them back into Mount Ida territory before a fumble at midfield gave the ball back to Perryville.
Perryville was able to move the ball to the Mount Ida 24 yard line, but a timely tackle by Beau Westin ended the Junior Mustang drive.
Perryville was able to score their second touchdown in their next drive on a 47 yard touchdown reception. The two point conversion was good and they held a 16-0 lead with 4:15 to go in the first half.
The Junior Lion offense found their legs on their last drive in the second quarter.
They started the drive on their own 36 yard line and five plays in had moved the ball to midfield. Woodfield broke loose for a 34 yard run to the Perryville 17 yard line. The drive ended two plays later when Perryville picked off Mount Ida’s first pass of the game.
The second half was all Perryville with Mount Ida only able to muster 12 yards of offense in the second half. Perryville went on to score once in the third quarter on a one yard run and once in the fourth on a 14 yard run.
