Extreme runners prep for LOViT 100

Extreme trail runners will take to the Lake Ouachita Vista Trail this weekend for the 8th annual LOViT 100 suite of races which includes a 100 mile race and a 100 kilometer race.

Runners will take to the trail either Friday night, February 28, or Saturday morning, February 29 depending on which race they compete. The grueling course has made the LOViT 100 one of the top extreme marathon events in the region.

Competitors in the LOViT 100 mile race will take to the course Friday at 5 p.m. They will have a 34 hour window to complete the course. Competitors in the 100 kilometer race will begin at 6 a.m. Saturday and will have a 21 hour window to complete the course.

The men’s record in the 100 mile course was set last year by Daniel Arnold with a time of 21 hours 34 minutes and 38 seconds. The women’s record was set in 2017 by Bailee Wilkerson with a time of 23 hours and 34 minutes.

The men’s record in the 100 kilometer course was set by Chris Ho in 2016 with a time of 10 hours 18 minutes. The best women’s time was set by Carmen Cheadle in 2016 with a time of 11 hours 30 minutes 42 seconds.

Competitors who complete the 100 mile course in the allotted time will receive a custom finisher’s buckle and those who complete the 100 kilometer course in the allotted time receive a medal.

Dustin and Rachel Speer are the race directors. The race committee consists of Phil Carr, Stacey Shaver, Elizabeth Kimble, Kim and Billy Shurley, Matthew Jackson, Joshua Drake, Corbett Sanders and Jason Armitage.
