County election filing period begins in February

Potential county office candidates still have a couple of months to file their paperwork according to Montgomery County Clerk Penny Black.
The open period for submitting your paperwork to run for a county office will begin February 22, 2022 at 12 p.m. and will end March 1, 2022. You can pick up your paperwork at the clerk’s office and return it during the aforementioned filing period.
This filing period is for all candidates whether they are running as a member of a political party, or as an independent.
The primary elections will be held May 24, 2022 and the general election will be held November 8, 2022.
Candidates seeking a city office will register in August and will be on the general ballot.
There are two county races that have already drawn multiple interested parties. The Montgomery County Judges race is currently a two man race with Bart Williams and Jeremy McCullough announcing their intentions to run for the office.
The County Sheriff position has at least three candidates who have announced their intention to run for sheriff. Andrew Thompson, Greg Harmon and Jerry Don Wheeler have announced their candidacies for the position.
Penny Black is seeking reelection as County Clerk and Missy Keenom has announced that she is running for County Treasurer.
