Christmas at “The Gap” returns December 11

After a year off due to COVID Christmas in the “Gap” returns to Caddo Gap Saturday, December 11.
Everyone is invited to take a trip back in time for an old fashioned Caddo Gap Christmas.
The Caddo Gap Community will be lit up with luminaries to celebrate the Christmas season as The Gap Mercantile and Caddo Gap Baptist Church offer traditional holiday fare for all to enjoy.
Long before there were strings of colorful lights and inflatable lawn ornaments people would decorate their yards and businesses with luminaries. They take a paper sack, or glass jar and place a candle inside to illuminate the night in a festive way.
The Gap Mercantile, the church and local residents will rekindle this holiday tradition during the festivities.
This year marks the fourth year the community has celebrated the coming of Christmas with luminaries and the fifth year since the neighborhood tradition began.
The Gap Mercantile will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. December 11. The McWilliams family invites everyone to come kick off the Christmas season with them. When one walks into the Gap Mercantile it is as if you have stepped back in time to the glory days of the 1930s and 40s. Refreshments will be served as seasonal music from bygone days plays on the radio. The mercantile features a wide variety of hard to find Christmas gift ideas. Their inventory features antiques, many of which were found locally, and a plethora of Arkansas made items including jellies, jams and needlework items.
Caddo Gap Baptist Church will feature “Sister Strings” that evening as headliners for a luminary Christmas service.
The program will begin at 6 p.m. featuring music from several church members and other local artists. At around 7 p.m. Sisters Strings Ensemble, a local string ensemble, will perform a set of Christmas chamber music.
Sisters Strings Ensemble is comprised of Annie, Bonnie and Ellie McWilliams. The concert is usually standing room only so please arrive early. Masks are encouraged, but not required.
