Arkansas will once again observe a Tax Free Weekend beginning Saturday, August 7, at 12:01 a.m. and continue until Sunday, August 8, at 11:59 p.m.
The statewide sales tax holiday allows shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain Electronic Devices, School Supplies, School Art Supplies, School Instructional Materials, and Clothing free of state and local sales or use tax.
All retailers are required to participate and may not charge tax on items that are legally tax-exempt during the Sales Tax Holiday.
This will be the first year certain electronics are included on the tax exempt list. The tax free weekend comes just a week before schools open in Arkansas.
A partial list of tax free items include: clothing (less than $100 per item) includes all human wearing apparel suitable for general use; clothing accessory or equipment (less than $100 per item) incidental item worn on the person or in conjunction with clothing; electronics, An electronic item commonly used by a student in a course of study; school supplies, an item used by a student in a course of study; school art supplies, an item commonly used by a student in a course of study for artwork; school instruction material, written material commonly used by a student in a course of study as a reference and to learn the subject being taught.
Several items are still taxable. These include sewing equipment and supplies; protective equipment and sport or recreational equipment.
