A community prayer marathon is set for Sunday, March 1, from 3-4:30 p.m. for Piper Black. Piper is recovering from a severe burn and broken bones suffered in an accident that claimed the life of her grandmother Deborah Black and Great Aunt Roseanna Markham.
The community prayer event will be held at the Old Norman High School Auditorium, which is located at 234 Hattie Street in Norman.
A tentative schedule will be made in 5 minute segments to allow each church and community group to lead in prayer, Scripture, and/or music, but individuals are also welcomed to lead. If a group is on a limited schedule, call 870-223-2724 to reserve a certain time.
Piper is the six year old daughter of Shane and Nicole Black. She was air-lifted February 7 to Arkansas Children’s Hospital for treatment from the scene of the accident.

Piper suffered a life threatening burn on her back which has required at least two surgeries so far. The depth of the burn has prevented the application of skin grafts, but doctors are confident she will make a complete recovery.
Piper’s mother Nicole stated in a Facebook post that doctors have told them that the burn was a contact burn that burned through the muscle on her back through to her rib cage.
Piper is home, but has to return to ACH for treatment two times a week. Her family asks that everyone continue to pray for Piper, but that you please refrain from visiting for now to help reduce the risk of infection.
In time doctor’s will be able to apply skin grafts to the burn.
Community support for Piper has been overwhelming. Prayers continue to go up for the six year old as she recovers. Several groups have launched fundraising efforts to help cover the costs of her recovery. Members of Caddo Hills athletic teams have been seen wearing shirts that say “Playing for Piper” and the phrase #PiperStrong can be found all over the Norman area.
Bake sales have been held to help raise money in Norman and Mount Ida and the Caddo Hills Band added a Pies for Piper pie sale to their fundraiser held this Monday at the school.
Everyone is encouraged to attend the Prayer Marathon to be held Sunday, March 1, at the Old Norman School Auditorium.
