Traildogs repair ADA Walkway

JERRY SHIELDS
A team of nine well spaced Traildog Volunteers recently spent a day providing much need maintenance to a portion of the Lake Ouachita Vista trail, the popular ADA Watchable Wildlife Trail. Recent wet weather and reoccurring thunderstorm have prevented normal maintenance from taking place.
The wet weather had pushed the waters of lake Ouachita up to and over portions of the paved walking trail preventing the Corps of Engineers from performing their normal mowing maintenance of the paved portion of this section of the trail.
The Traildogs repaired a section of the handrail leading up to the bridge over Gap Creek then turned their attention to trimming the lush growth brought on by the constant rain. Overhanging limbs and thick vines that had invaded the elevated wooden walkway were trimmed back and debris from the receded waters over the paved section was removed and the entire tails was cleared of storm and flood damage.
The Traildog Volunteers are part of the Friends of Lake Ouachita, Inc. a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting recreational improvements in and around Lake Ouachita.
Those participating in the maintenance effort were Robert Worksmith, Shane Scott, Al Gathright, Robert Cavanaugh, Dan Watson, and Jerry Shields from Montgomery County and John Nichols and Bill Pell of Garland County.
