Reddies to Host Military and First Responders Appreciation Day Saturday

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State Athletics will pay tribute to our armed forces and hometown heroes this Saturday when it hosts Military and First Responders Appreciation Day at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium and Ruggles Field for the Reddies’ home opener versus Northwestern Oklahoma State.

All active and retired military members, first responders and their family members will be granted free admission to the game with valid identification. Kickoff for the game is set for 6 p.m.

Special camouflage Reddies hats will be sold for $20 at the bookstore and the game day kiosk this week with all proceeds going to benefit the Henderson State ROTC program. Additionally, the Showband of Arkansas will perform a special tribute on the field and the crowd will observe a moment of silence prior to kickoff to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11.

At 2 p.m., the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Scholarship presentation will take place on the Duke Wells South Lawn and will be awarded to a senior Henderson State ROTC student.

>From 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. a tailgating meal featuring hamburgers, hot dogs and sides will be provided to the first 100 first responders, active duty and veteran military members and their families. To reserve your spot at the free tailgate meal, please RSVP to Liz Martin at 870-230-5546 or martinel@hsu.edu.
