Ouachita Artists Gallery and Studio membership drive underway

Ouachita Artists Gallery and Studio is having its annual Membership Drive, with $30.00 dues payable by January 31.

Members of the Gallery have admitted that they have had a tough year but survived thanks to the generosity of members and some faithful patrons. They are a 501(c)3 nonprofit all-volunteer organization, and are proud to be entering their 10th year of operation, providing a space for local artists and artisans to display and market their arts and crafts.

All the work in the gallery is hand-made by talented local people. They offer classes and workshops for adults and children, and have a large library of donated books and magazines where people can come to read and study (although you must be a member to check out books). All Gallery meetings, classes and activities are open to the public, but you must be a member to display your art.

They have a lot to offer the community: the Monday Painters is an informal weekly gathering of artists who enjoy “doing their art” in congenial company; there is no charge and all are welcome. They have the Monday ARTrageous the first Monday evening of each month, where for a nominal fee all supplies are provided for you to enjoy producing some kind of project under the guidance of one of our artists. One of the Gallery’s members has in the past gone monthly to the Assisted Living Center to guide the residents in making paintings which hang in the gallery. They hope to resume this activity when the world is open again.

They hope to expand their Youth Program in 2021, and plans are already under way to make up for not being able to have the kids this year.

If you are a current member, you should have received a renewal notice in the mail; if you are a former member, They would ask that you consider renewing your membership at the Gallery. If you have never been a member, they would love to have you join.

Come by and visit with some of the volunteers, and learn more about who they are and what they do.

The Gallery is located at 135 South West Street just across from the courthouse. You can pick up a membership form and pay your dues at the gallery or you can mail a membership form to Ouachita Artists, P. O. Box 1204, Mount Ida AR 71957.

If you are not an artist, that’s okay. There are several members who don’t “do art” but who enjoy supporting the arts and a local business. Thank you for your support, and by all means go visit the Gallery.
