Mount Ida to host regional archery tournament

Mount Ida High School will host the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission High School Archery Region 7 Tournament to be held Saturday, February 8.

The announcement was made during last week’s district board of directors meeting held Monday, January 13 at the high school campus.

This is the first year Mount Ida has participated in the AG&FC Arkansas National Archery in the School Program. The regional event will be held in the HYPER Gym located between the high school campus and the arena.

It was also announced that Mount Ida will host the senior boys and girls basketball tournament to be held February 17-22. The junior high tournaments will be held in Gurdon February 8-10.

In the principal reports Elementary Principal Donna Whisenhunt reported that Operation Santa Claus served 60 children. She also reported that $900 had been donated to the Feed a Lion Program. The donations have been used to help at least 25 different students pay on their lunch accounts. She also shared that Coach Tad Kesterson is hosting a student teacher this semester. TJ Wilson, a graduate of Mount Ida will be shadowing Coach Kesterson who serves as the elementary PE teacher.

Superintendent Mike White presented the board members with certificates of appreciation for their hard work and dedication to the Mount Ida School District.

After a brief executive session the board voted to accept resignations from several employees.

Lisa Hughbanks tendered her resignation effective February 6, 2020, from her position as school nurse.

Danielle Adams resigned from her position as an elementary cafeteria worker effective December 20, 2019.

Shelia Roberts resigned from her position as high school math teacher effective the end of the 2019-2020 school year.

Samantha Waggoner was hired to fill a position as elementary cafeteria worker.
