The Mount Ida City Council played catch up Monday night with past minutes and financial reports as postponing meetings in March and April due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Monday night’s meeting was the first since February 24 with council members breezing through the approval of past minutes and financial reports.
There was only one item on the agenda with the Council approving a resolution naming Mayor Jo Childress executor of a $20,000 FAA grant for Bearce Airport.

She explained that the grant was part of the CARES Act and had been brought to her by the city’s architect for the airport. She is looking into whether the money can be used for some repairs needed around the airport.
The Mayor shared that at first she didn’t think they should get the grant since they lease the airport to someone else. However, she explained that the architect told her that the city qualified because they are the owner of the airport.
The Mayor shared that Sales Tax collections for the city were up slightly in March. She has had conversations with Senator Tom Cotton’s office and Governor Asa Hutchinson’s office regarding assistance for the city if needed.
