Mount Ida will have plenty of film to study for their first round opponent in the 2A Football Playoffs with the Bearden Bears set to return to Stidman Field Friday night.
The Lions enter the playoffs as the Three Seed out of the 5-2A behind Gurdon (1st) and Poyen (2nd). They will face Bearden, the Four Seed from the 8-2A. Mount Ida and Bearden faced off in week three with the Lions earning a 17-6 victory, their first victory of the year.
Mount Ida enters the playoffs with a 4-6 overall record and 2-2 in conference play. Bearden finished the regular season with a 5-5 overall record and 3-3 in the 82-A Conference.
Superintendent Mike White has yet to release ticket details, but it is expected to be similar to the regular season voucher system.
The possibility of at large teams sparked speculation of an additional week of playoffs. A number of teams opted out of the playoffs which allowed the inclusion of the at large teams without the addition of play in games.
If Mount Ida is able to advance to the second round their projected opponent is another familiar foe in Des Arc. The Lions did not fare as well against the Eagles with Des Arc easily winning the match up with a score of 47-14.
First round games for the 5-2A include:
1 Seed: Gurdon Bye
2 Seed: Poyen vs Cedar Ridge
3 Seed: Mount Ida vs Bearden
4 Seed: Magnet Cove @ McRory
5 Seed: Cutter Morning Star Opted Out
