DIERKS – The Mount Ida Lions Jumped out to a 6-0 lead Friday night but was unable to hold onto the lead as Dierks rolled to a 51-14 victory.
Mount Ida was able to amass 120 yards on 31 carries while Seth Breashears went 1-4 in the air for nine yards and an interception. He also rushed for two yards on four carries.
Baylor Bates was the leading rusher for Mount Ida with 68 yards and a score on nine carries. Landon Scrimshire was second with 24 yards and a touchdown on four carries. AJ Perez had six carries for 12 yards and Hunter Davis had nine yards on six carries. Ian Mcdowell had a three yard carry, followed by John Hoeksema with a two yard carry. Hoeksema also had the lone reception of the night for Mount Ida.
Dierks carried the ball 33 times for 396 yards and six touchdowns. They completed a 14 yard touchdown pass as well.
Konnor Shelton was the leading rusher for Dierks with 148 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Austin Alexander had three carries for 107 yards and a score.
Mount Ida opened the game with an impressive 10 play drive that traversed 51 yards and ended in a five yard touchdown run by Baylor Bates. The 2-point conversion failed and Mount Ida held a six point lead with 7:35 left in the opening stanza.
The Lion lead was short-lived as Dierks Marched downfield to score on a 10 yard run by Konnor Shelton. Shelton carried the ball in for the 2-point conversion to give Dierks an 8-6 lead.
The game was all Dierks for the rest of the first half with the Outlaws scoring 37 unanswered points to take a 45-6 halftime lead.
Chandler Lowery scored on a 12 yard run at the 2:54 mark in the first quarter followed by a 2-point conversion by Austin Hanson.
Lowery scored again at the 11:12 mark of the second quarter on a four yard run. Mount Ida was able to stop the Outlaws on the 2-point conversion attempt, but Dierks held a 22-6 lead.
Dierks next drive was set up by an interception by Austin Alexander, but a blindside block resulted in an unsportsmanlike conduct call against Austin Hanson. It was his second of the night and as a result he was ejected and will have to sit out until the second half of Dierks’ game against Murfreesboro in two weeks.
Dierks would go onto score on a 15 yard run by Shelton. He would convert on the 2-point conversion.
Lowery connected with Bryce Fox for a 14 yard TD reception with 4:24 left in the half. Braxton Claborn ran in for the 2-point conversion to give Dierks a 38-6 lead. Alexander scored the final points of the half.
Dierks’ final touchdown came at the 5:47 mark of the third quarter on a one yard run by Kyle Stamps. The PAT was no good.
Mount Ida responded with a five play drive that started on their own 42 yard line. They fought their way to midfield before Bates broke loose for a 35 yard run to the Outlaw 15 yard line.
Landon Scrimshire finished the job with a 15 yard touchdown run. Ian McDowell scored on the 2-point conversion to cut the Outlaw lead to 51-14.
Mount Ida will celebrate Senior Night Friday as they welcome the Gurdon Go-Devils to Preston Stidman Field. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.
