Irwin clears 19 feet in win at Jack Frost Meet

A former Mount Ida Lion moved one step closer to achieving his goal of representing the United States in the Olympics last Saturday after winning the Jack Frost Invitational Pole Vault Meet sponsored by the Arkansas Vault Club.

The Jack Frost Meet was held in the Arkansas Vault Club’s indoor facility located in Black Springs. Male and female pole vaulters of all ages and skill levels competed with Andrew Irwin giving a stand out performance with a vault of 19 feet and a quarter inch. The vault was a national best for the year and helps qualify Irwin for the Olympic Trials to be held later this year.

Irwin needed two attempts to make his first vault at 18 feet a quarter inch and three attempts at 18-08. Once the bar was raised over 19 feet he was all business, hitting the vault on his first attempt. He attempted to set a personal best at 19-04.25, but failed to complete the vault cleanly.

He won the top division with Carson Lenser finishing second with a vault of 16 feet, followed by Hunter Johnson with a vault of 15-05, Trace South with a vault of 14-03.25, Parker Benefield with a vault of 14-03.25, JT Bardwell with a vault of 13-09.25, Tannar Moix with a vault of 13-09.25, Tre Ault with a vault of 13-03.5 and Brock McRae with a vault of 12-03.50.

Sutton Manatt won the second men’s division with a vault of 12-03.5, followed by Brody Schreyer with a vault of 12-03.5 and Stanislav Storkov with a vault of 12-03.5.

Ethan Abernathy won the third men’s division with a vault of 11 feet, followed by Connor Vogt with a vault of 10 feet and Hudson Cameron with a vault of 8-06.

Jamie Neel won the fourth men’s division with a vault of 8 feet. Caddo Hills Seventh grader Cameron Sliger finished second with a vault of six feet six inches.

Kent Gartin won the Master’s Division with a vault of 8 feet, followed by Vernon Gingrich who also vaulted 8 feet.

The women’s top division was a shoot out with twin sisters Alexis Jacobus and Victoria Hoggard battling to a vault off to determine the top spot. Alexis came out on top with a vault of 13 feet 6.25 inches while Victoria finished second with a vault of 13 feet 3.5 inches.

Sidney Row finished third with a vault of 10-06, followed by Emilee Bates with a vault of 9-06, Payton Freeman with a vault of 9-06, and Mahayla Swayze with a vault of 9 feet.

Payton Hufford won the second women’s division with a vault of 9-06, followed by Zayna Siddiqui with a vault of 8-06.

Caddo Hills seventh grader Katelynn Foster won the third women’s division with a vault of eight feet. She needed two attempts at her opening height of six feet, but blew through her next three heights with makes on her first attempts. She needed two vaults to pass the eight foot mark.

Reagan Carrouth finished second with a vault of 7-06, followed by Mia Morse of Centerpoint with a vault of 7 feet, Skylin Sliger of Caddo Hills with a vault of 6-06 and Abby Ables with a vault of 6 feet.

Arkansas Vault Club will host the Indoor Pole Vault Challenge Saturday, January 11, and the Vertical Climb Meet Saturday, February 22.
