GLENWOOD – In an epic show of school spirit and community pride Caddo Hills School District bested the Centerpoint School District by over 9,000 gallons to win the Racehorse Citgo “Fuel Duel.”
The “Fuel Duel” was a spirit wrap promotion sponsored by the Racehorse Citgo in Glenwood. Store manager Anne Garton shared that the idea for the fundraiser came during a corporate meeting last Summer. The speaker mentioned spirit wrap fundraising and the first thing she thought of was school spirit. When she returned to Glenwood she began putting together the first fuel duel featuring Caddo Hills and Centerpoints school districts.

The promotion began at the end of October and ran through the month of December. Specific pumps were designated to each school with spirit wraps applied to the pumps to identify which schools they represented. The store then tracked gas sales on all of the pumps to determine a winner.
Garton stated that the promotion was a success beyond her wildest dreams. She shared stories of how young children would make their parents wait in line just to make sure they were using the right pump for their school.

She also shared how customers would move from one pump to another after realizing they were in the wrong line.
She felt the inclusion of the school logos was key to the success of the event.

Originally each school was to receive a maximum of $1,000 with the winning school receiving an additional $1,000. However, Garton stated that she decided to award the full amount earned by both schools.
As a result of her decision Caddo Hills and Centerpoint School Districts were awarded over $5,600 thanks to Racehorse Citgo in Glenwood.
The Caddo Hills Indians received $3,462.77 thanks to Racehorse Citgo in Glenwood and all the fine families and friends of the school who purchased gas at the Racehorse location in Glenwood over the last few months. They received $2,462.77 from the gas that was sold through their pumps and an additional $1,000 from Citgo for collecting the most gallons of gas.
Centerpoint received $2,189.59 from the gas that was sold through their pumps.
Garton stated that the store saw a 27 percent increase in gas sales during the contest and added that their “Fuel Duel” is being considered as a model for other Citgo businesses across the country.
The staff at Racehorse Citgo in Glenwood is already looking forward to the next competition hopefully to be held later this year.
