Blazing a new trail in Montgomery County

The Montgomery County Quilt Trail will host a Grand Opening on Saturday, April 30 from 10:00-3:00. There are 18 quilt trail blocks around the county to visit. This is a project of ARCO (Arkansas Coalition of the Ouachitas) and is coordinated by County Extension Agent – Staff Chair Amy Monk. The Quilt Trail’s purposes are to preserve local history, beautify communities, and promote tourism among residents and visitors.
The Quilt Trail provides a driving tour of the area’s scenic beauty, artistic creations of painted quilt blocks, and the history of agriculture and quilting. People are encouraged to enjoy the drive, look around and take photographs. Take advantage of the Grand Opening to visit with available quilt block artists and owners, visit stores and museums, and enjoy refreshments at some locations. There are public restrooms available at some locations as well. The Montgomery County Trail includes several historic homes and sites, retail shops, old barns, a historic church and cemetery, museums, and an art gallery. It’s a great way to get a full picture of the quaint nature and beauty of Montgomery County.
Each block also has a story posted on the Arkansas Quilt Trails website at http://arkansasquilttrails.com/montgomerycounty/. Locations and stories may also be found online using the QR code provided on fliers and on the Montgomery County Extension Facebook page. A Quilt Trail Guide will be available soon in Mount Ida at the Extension Office, the Chamber of Commerce, the Heritage House Museum, and the Ouachita Artist Gallery, in Caddo Gap at the Gap Mercantile, in Norman at the Norman School Museum, in Story at the Blue Bell Café, in Oden at Double T’s, and in Pine Ridge at the Lum & Abner Museum.
